IGNOU MA English Distance learning programme is offered by Indira Gandhi National Open University in both January and July sessions of admission.The university invites online applications from the learners to get admission in MA English programme for January 2025.
The programme code is “MEG”.
It comes under the School of Humanities (SOH). It means SOH is responsible for all the activities related to this programme.The admission in MA English programme is provided under IGNOU Walk-In admission scheme. In this scheme, the learners can apply for admission to this programme in any of the two academic sessions.
The students who have completed their Bachelor Degree can apply for admission in any of January or July academic session to pursue this Master Degree programme in English literature.To become eligible for the master degree to be awarded, the student should complete all the required first-year and second-year courses.
Programme Objective
The IGNOU MA English programme has been designed to provide the learners with sound knowledge of English and American literature. It also gives the learners fair idea about the other new areas in literature such as, Canadian, Australian and Indian English.

Medium of Instruction
The medium of instruction is English only.The students have to write assignments and term-end examination in English medium only.
Eligibility Criteria
The candidates should be having Bachelor or higher degree from a recognised university.
Fee Structure
The candidates need to pay the total fee of Rs. 15,400/- for the complete discipline which has to be paid @Rs 7,700/- per year during the admission and re-registration process.
Duration of Programme
The university provides the minimum duration of two years to the students to clear all the MA English (MEG) courses during the study. But the university allows the students to clear the programme within a maximum duration of five years.

IGNOU MA English Prospectus 2025
The learners can obtain the hard copy of the “Student Handbook and Prospectus” for MEG programme from their nearest IGNOU Regional Centers or Study Centers of the university by submitting the fee of Rs.200/- at the Cash Counters.
The Common prospectus contains the complete detail about the MA English programme and it also includes various forms which would be required for the completion of studies such as Term End Examination, Re-Registration, Revaluation, Change of Study Centre, Course, etc.
The students can also order prospectus via post as well by sending Demand Draft of Rs.250/- in favour of IGNOU, New Delhi to the following address: “Registrar, Student Registration Division, IGNOU, Maidan Garhi, New Delhi,110068”. The prospectus will be sent to students only after the receiving of Demand Draft by the university.

IGNOU MA English Admission 2025
The learners from all over the country can apply for admission to this programme via only single mode of admission i.e. Online. In the Online mode of admission, the students has to open up the IGNOU MA English online admission portal i.e. https://ignouadmission.samarth.edu.in/index.php/site/index
They need to register themselves at the portal and follow the general instructions to enroll them for MEG programme. The students have to upload the required documents while filling up IGNOU MA English online admission form. IGNOU MA English Syllabus & Courses
In the first year of the IGNOU MA English program, students learn the basics of literary analysis and language study. The main course, MEG 05: Literary Criticism and Theory, worth 8 credits, helps students understand literature better and teaches them how to analyze and evaluate literary works.
In the second year, students explore language and literature more deeply. The required course, MEG 04: Aspects of Language, is an 8-credit course that looks at different parts of language, helping students understand its structure, development, and importance.
