IGNOU MA Economics Admission 2025 – Master of Arts in Economics (MAEC)
The Indira Gandhi National Open University invites applications from the learners all over the country for admission to its MA Economics programme for January as well as July session every year. The IGNOU MA Economics admission 2025 for January session has been started now.
The programme code is “MAEC”.
It comes under the School of Social Sciences (SOSS). The IGNOU MA Economics admission is provided to students under the Walk-In admission scheme. In this scheme, the learners can apply for admission to this programme in any of the two academic sessions.
The students who have completed their Bachelor Degree can apply for admission in both January or July academic cycle to pursue their Master Degree in Economics from IGNOU. To become eligible for the master degree to be awarded, the student should complete all the required first-year and second-year courses.
Programme Objective
The IGNOU MA(Economics) programme has been designed to provide the learners with sound knowledge of Economics. It also provides an opportunity for the learners who have completed their graduation and desires to pursue their Master Degree in the field of Economics.
Along with the core courses offered by other universities, the IGNOU has included the courses related to insurance and finance in its master degree syllabus which are expected to be very useful in the present scenario of economic liberalization and globalization.

Medium of Instruction
The medium of instruction is English & Hindi only.The students should write assignments and term-end examination in their chosen medium.
Eligibility Criteria
To apply for the MA in Economics program, candidates must have completed a Bachelor’s degree or any higher degree from a recognized university. This ensures that students enrolling in the program have the foundational knowledge needed to excel in their studies.
Fee Structure
The fee for the program is set at Rs. 8800/- per year. Additional fees, including Registration Fee and Development Fee, will be applicable as per the university’s regulations. The affordable fee structure ensures that a higher education in economics is accessible to a wide range of students.
Duration of Programme
The university provides the minimum duration of two years to the students to clear all the MA English (MEG) courses during the study. But the university allows the students to clear the programme within a maximum duration of five years.

IGNOU MA Economics Prospectus 2025
The learners can obtain the hard copy of the “Student Handbook and Prospectus” for MEC programme from their nearest IGNOU Regional Centers or Study Centers of the university by submitting the fee of Rs.200/- at the Cash Counters.
The Common prospectus contains the complete detail about the MA Economics programme and it also includes various forms which would be required for the completion of studies such as Term End Examination, Re-Registration, Revaluation, Change of Study Centre, Course, etc.
The students can also order prospectus via post as well by sending Demand Draft of Rs.250/- in favour of IGNOU, New Delhi to the following address: “Registrar, Student Registration Division, IGNOU, Maidan Garhi, New Delhi,110068”. The prospectus will be sent to students only after the receiving of Demand Draft by the university.

IGNOU MA English Admission 2025
The learners from all over the country can apply for admission to this programme via only single mode of admission i.e. Online. In the Online mode of admission, the students has to open up the IGNOU MA Economics online admission portal i.e. https://onlineadmission.ignou.ac.in/.
They need to register themselves at the portal and follow the general instructions to enroll them for MEC programme. The students have to upload the required documents while filling up IGNOU MA Economics online admission form. Also, they can pay the admission fee for this programme online via using their Debit Card, Credit Card or Net Banking.

IGNOU MA Economics Syllabus & Courses
The program is now offered in a semester format with four semesters, each worth 20 credits, totaling 80 credits. All courses in the first, second, and third semesters are compulsory. In the fourth semester, students can choose a specialization from one of the following areas: A) Data Analytics, B) Energy and Environmental Economics, C) Insurance and Finance, or D) Social Policy.
If a student does not want to specialize, they can select 20 credits from any of these four areas. The program aims to improve students’ understanding of the economy and enhance their analytical skills to help them find jobs in the market.
The students who are pursuing this programme need to register themselves for the 1st and second year courses respectively, irrespective of their results whether they pass or fail.
